Trump Won’t Address Healthcare in SOTU, Ignoring Top Issue on Voters’ Minds

Recent polling shows voters want to hear a plan to reduce healthcare costs more than any other issue

According to extensive excerpts of President Trump’s prepared remarks, he will completely ignore the issue of healthcare and its rising costs under this Republican Congress and White House. A recent Politico poll found that 59% of voters believe that it’s “very important” for Trump to discuss improving the healthcare system, the highest testing issue.

On the issue of healthcare overall, the DCCC’s most recent polling shows Democrats in Congress with a massive 28-point advantage over Republicans in Congress. Simply put, Democrats are already winning the critical healthcare debate while the leader of the Republican Party is making matters worse for Republicans by sabotaging the system.

“The American people are going to be very concerned when President Trump refuses to address the rising cost of healthcare that Republicans have caused through repeal efforts and sabotage of the existing system,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law. “With premiums and out-of-pocket costs going up year after year under the Republican Congress, hardworking families are rightfully demanding concrete solutions to fix our broken healthcare system, and apparently will get nothing from President Trump. To be clear: the midterms will be a debate about the rising costs of healthcare, and unfortunately for Speaker Ryan’s imperiled majority, that is a debate Republicans are already losing in districts across America.”
