It’s been a bad twenty-four hours for Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05).
First, she didn’t get the Oregonian’s endorsement. The editorial board found her positions – especially on abortion – to be “confusing,” and thought her regurgitation of far-right “Republican themes” wasn’t enough to cover up a lack of familiarity with key issues.
Then, she lost out on the Source Weekly’s endorsement. They were stunned by the sheer “number of fabrications coming out of [her] campaign.” But beyond that, they were put off by her “lackluster ability to show up for the people of Central Oregon.”
She thought she might catch a break – but then she didn’t get the Bend Bulletin’s endorsement either. They called Chavez-DeRemer out for her demonstrably “false” attacks on her opponent, Jamie McLeod-Skinner, related to policing, pointing out that McLeod-Skinner “actually increased funding for the police.”
And as if all that wasn’t enough, Eugene Weekly didn’t endorse her either. They found her unfounded “attacks” stemming from far-right Republican culture wars to be “spurious.” And, worse, they were repulsed by her eerily “Trumpian” dog whistles.
DCCC Spokesperson Teddy Lake:
“It’s been a bad week for Lori Chavez-DeRemer – which makes it a good one for all Oregonians who value their democracy, their planet, and their bodily autonomy.”
