This morning, former President Trump once again bragged about overturning Roe v. Wade, which paved the way for states to implement draconian abortion bans and IVF restrictions. Since the Court’s decision in Dobbs, New York Republican Anthony D’Esposito has joined his pick for president, Trump, and his extreme colleagues to restrict abortion care nationwide.
For example, D’Esposito has:
Backed a nationwide abortion ban and then immediately tried to back down from his position just moments later while on the campaign trail in 2022.
Supported the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which led to the decision we’re seeing in Alabama over IVF.
Voted for draconian federal anti-abortion legislation in Congress multiple times, including restricting reproductive care nationally for servicemembers and their families.
Passed two anti-abortion bills that spread misinformation and anti-choice rhetoric, doing nothing to help women and families.
And of course, D’Esposito supported extremist Speaker Mike Johnson – who has co-sponsored a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or to save a woman’s life that would also prohibit IVF and common forms of birth control, and has pushed for 10 years of hard labor from doctors for providing abortion care.
Trump’s mission to overturn Roe v. Wade set the groundwork for states to implement radical abortion bans. As a result, abortion will remain on the ballot in states that encompass eighteen competitive swing districts, including NY-04. Every time abortion has been on the ballot since the fall of Roe, extreme Republicans have lost.
