With Trump’s First Visit to Minnesota, Paulsen and Lewis Must Confront Their Records of Standing With Trump

On the six-month anniversary of passage of the Republican tax scam and with President Donald Trump in town, vulnerable Reps. Erik Paulsen and Jason Lewis must confront their records in Washington. Their vote for the GOP Tax Scam gave massive giveaways to corporations and the wealthiest Americans, while increasing daily costs and healthcare premiums for everyone else.

The Republican tax scam capped the amount of money that Minnesota homeowners can deduct for state and local taxes, and repealed a key provision of the Affordable Care Act that will result in Americans paying more for health care. The GOP tax scam blew a $1.9 trillion hole in the deficit, and Speaker Paul Ryan and Washington Republicans have made clear that they are willing to cut Medicare and Social Security to offset their massive giveaway to corporations and the wealthy. Over 83% of the tax cuts go to the wealthiest 1% of Americans.

Whether Lewis or Paulsen attend the event or not, they’re both voting with Trump nearly 100 percent of the time in D.C. and must confront their records that hurt Minnesota families:

“Reps. Erik Paulsen and Jason Lewis have embraced the worst of President Trump’s harmful policies and 6 months ago passed a tax scam that benefits their special interest donors over the middle class,” said DCCC spokesperson Rachel Irwin. “With President Trump in town, Paulsen and Lewis must answer for bringing the President’s worst policies to Minnesota and hurting hardworking families in the process.”

Along with the GOP Tax Scam, Paulsen and Lewis both voted for the American Healthcare Act (AHCA), which would raise healthcare costs, impose an age tax on seniors and gut protections for those with pre-existing conditions. Given the Trump Administration’s ongoing attacks on those with pre-existing conditions, Paulsen and Lewis have failed to stand up for the more than 300,000 people impacted by pre-existing conditions in each of their districts.
