Was Trump’s Support for Zeldin a “Terrible Deal?”

After blasting “total no-show” Marco Rubio, Trump should ask for contribution back given Lee Zeldin’s no-show record in ISIS/Syria hearings

As Trump continues to slam Marco Rubio as a “total no-show in the U.S. Senate,” would he agree that his past support for Long Island Congressman Lee Zeldin – who was caught skipping out of ISIS/Syria hearings – was a “terrible deal?”

During his run for Congress in 2014, Donald Trump contributed to Zeldin’s campaign and lent his voice to a pro-Zeldin robocall.

Since then, Zeldin has been caught skipping out of foreign policy congressional hearings while making frequent appearances on Fox News.

The New York Post reported that Zeldin had “missed more than half of full [Foreign Affairs] committee hearings last year,” and skipped out of two-thirds of “full committee and subcommittee hearings focused just on ISIS and the Syrian crisis – issues Zeldin regularly lectures about on cable news.”

Terrible deal? We think so.

“In the words of Donald Trump, contributing to no-show Lee Zeldin – who skipped out of congressional work that focused on ISIS and Syria – was a ‘terrible deal,’ and he should ask for his money back. Sad!” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “As Zeldin continues to embrace Trump and his reckless rhetoric that makes America less safe, he only brings more attention to his own no-show record of blowing off work that he refuses to apologize for and come clean with his constituents on Long Island.”

For what it’s worth, Zeldin has been a big fan of Trump’s reckless rhetoric that even Republican national security experts deem would make America less safe. ABC News reported that Zeldin “broadly praised Trump’s positioning on foreign policy” late last year.
