When Republicans voted to protect their criminally-indicted colleague instead of expelling him, they defended their cowardly inaction with false arguments like Rep. Anthony D’Esposito’s claim that “this is the quickest way of ridding the House of Representatives of this scourge on government.”
As if that wasn’t enough of a lie, their fellow vulnerable Long Island Rep. Nick LaLota rationalized their vote by saying, “we expect a result within 60 days and for the terrible liar to be gone, by resignation or expulsion, before August recess.”
Well – it’s been more than 60 days and August recess begins next week. Rep. Santos is still a member of Congress thanks to House Republicans.
It’s clear Republicans have no intentions of keeping their word and holding their criminal colleague accountable.
DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shleton:
“Long Islanders deserve honest representation and, at the very least, a Congressperson who isn’t a serial fraudster and admitted criminal, but it’s clear that House Republicans don’t care. It’s well past time for them to expel George Santos and stop hiding behind a bureaucratic loophole to avoid doing their job.”
REMINDER: Read the DCCC memo exposing the false narrative of Republicans referring George Santos to the ethics committee as a ‘fast process’ HERE.
