**UPDATED** DCCC’s Kelly Ward Statement on Paul Ryan’s Eventual Response to Trump

In response to Speaker Paul Ryan’s failure to revoke his support of Donald Trump for president – and therefore falling far short of the low bar set below – DCCC’s Executive Director Kelly Ward released the following statement:

The fundamental truth is that as long as Speaker Paul Ryan supports Donald Trump for president, the dynamic has not changed in the slightest. Donald Trump is not a role model, he is not a leader we want our children to see in the role of Commander in Chief, and he is not fit for the presidency. Period. It’s clear that Republican Members of Congress and candidates for the House that have stood by Donald Trump for president should be nowhere near our House of Representatives.”

In anticipation of Speaker Paul Ryan’s eventual and insufficient response to Donald Trump’s repulsive remarks released this evening, the DCCC’s Executive Director Kelly Ward released the following statement:

“Even if Speaker Ryan breaks from his usual course and actually disavows Donald Trump following these unacceptably disgusting remarks, it’s too damn late. There have been more than enough ‘final straw’ moments during this campaign, and Speaker Ryan has continued to unabashedly put party first in supporting the most repulsive candidate for president that our country has ever seen. If Speaker Ryan steps away from Trump, it will be an act of political expedience and desperate reputation-saving, which won’t redeem him or House Republicans in the eyes of voters.”
