Valadao, Garcia, and Duarte Refuse to Comment As “California GOP Floats Removing Opposition to Abortion” From Their Party Platform

Daily Caller: “The California Republican Party and candidates named in this story did not immediately respond to a request for comment.”

As the California GOP considers whether to scrub anti-choice and anti-LGBTQ+ positions from their platform in a desperate ploy to help their electoral chances, vulnerable House Republicans David Valadao, Mike Garcia, and John Duarte are staying noticeably silent. Their silence comes as no surprise given their terrible voting records on women’s reproductive rights.

As a reminder: this trio of Republican incumbents have each voted to make it harder for women to access reproductive health care – with Valadao and Garcia even having pushed for a ban on abortion even in cases of rape, incest, and threat to the life of the mother. In June, Valadao and Garcia also voted to limit access to the safe and effective abortion medication mifepristone – going on record with their support for ripping away medication from women nationwide.

DCCC Spokesperson Dan Gottlieb:
“Valadao, Garcia, and Duarte all have the same problem: voting to make it harder for women to access reproductive care while members of their own state party begin to see the writing on the wall. This Republican trio has voted against the interests of their constituents far too many times, and their newfound silence isn’t fooling anyone.”
