Valadao Targets Federal Funding for Reproductive Health Care

Despite Californians’ right to abortion being protected under state law, David Valadao rubberstamped a last minute provision buried in the GOP Tax Scam that would block Affordable Care Act (ACA) funds from going to any state health plans that cover abortion services.

This poison rider would force states like California to choose: protect access to abortion or put millions at risk of losing their health care. 

Let’s be clear: this was never about “states’ rights.” It’s part of a larger effort by anti-choice Republicans to chip away at abortion access nationwide — piece by piece, bill by bill.

Here’s what Valadao had to say about the effort he already voted for:

• VALADAO: Claimed he “didn’t know if he had read” the provision. When asked whether it could block Californians from accessing ACA plans, he said “I imagine so. I need to look into that a little bit better.”

“David Valadao isn’t fooling anyone. His long record of anti-choice extremism speaks for itself, and this is yet another backdoor scheme to rip away reproductive health care from millions of Californians. Voters will remember come 2026.”
