David Valadao continues to attack critical, lifesaving services for everyday Americans in order to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy and well-connected. After voting for the Big, Ugly Law that would rip health care away from 3.4 million Californians and endanger thousands of lives, Valadao just voted to take away $1 billion in funds for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting.
For many parts of the country, especially rural communities, public broadcasting serves as the main source for emergency weather alerts to warn people about floods, fires and other natural disasters. It’s a critical system that millions of people depend on. Valadao’s vote to gut the funding will jeopardize stations’ ability to maintain these emergency alert systems and endanger public safety.
DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“David Valadao continues to endanger the lives of the American people to pay for his tax breaks that benefit his billionaire backers. Gutting rural hospitals wasn’t enough for him, now he is crippling emergency alert services. Because of Valadao’s cruelty, Californians’ lives will be endangered.”
