Van Drew Joins GOP’s Removal of Cheney

Hiding Behind Voice Vote, Van Drew Ousts Cheney
This morning through voice vote, House Republicans handed over their caucus to the most radical and extreme members of their party, those who propagated the Big Lie that led to the insurrection on January 6th.

The conservative Wall Street Journal Editorial page wrote just last week: “GOP leaders shouldn’t have to lie about 2020 to keep their job.”  This morning, their caucus made clear it was the only qualification for keeping their jobs in today’s Republican Party.

Rep. Jeff Van Drew thought he could hide behind a voice vote to force out Cheney, believing that by not recording the vote, he would not be held accountable.  Van Drew either joined the voice vote or cowered in silence and allowed Cheney to be expelled from leadership for telling the truth.

“To quote Liz Cheney, ‘Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar.’ This morning’s cowardly attack on truth finalizes the Republican Party’s Ponzi scheme of lies has hit its breaking point,” said DCCC spokesperson James Singer. “Van Drew’s endorsement of this ouster of Cheney for simply telling the truth about the 2020 election does not portend well for them in battleground districts in 2022. Democrats will continue to focus on delivering for New Jersey families as House Republicans give their caucus over to radical, conspiracy-minded members like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz.”
