“Very Disturbing:” New Reporting Reveals “Cruel” Behavior from Top Republican Candidate in TX-15

New reporting details Monica De La Cruz’s hostile treatment of ex-husband and stepdaughter in their shared home

New reporting reveals additional details about Monica De La Cruz’s alleged “cruel treatment” of her teenage stepdaughter, raising serious concerns about her fitness for public office and her candidacy in TX-15.

According to new court documents reported by PEOPLE and the Washington Post, De La Cruz used “vulgar” and “disturbing” language about her stepdaughter in text conversations and “expressed that she would sooner divorce” her now-ex husband than allow her teenage stepdaughter back into their shared home.

As Washington Post reports, De La Cruz “directed a four-letter expletive at Hernandez, his ex-wife and their daughter” as she threatened to end the marriage if her teenage stepdaughter returned home:

“The text messages showed that De La Cruz threatened to end the marriage in August if Hernandez brought his daughter home, and directed a four-letter expletive at Hernandez, his ex-wife and their daughter.

“She later repeated the vulgar message twice, referring to his daughter by name. The Washington Post is not disclosing her name because she is a minor.

“‘Not very congressional,’ her husband responded in the text message thread. ‘You don’t mean that about me and my daughter.’

“‘I mean every word,’ De La Cruz shot back.”

The text exchanges between De La Cruz and her ex-husband raise serious concerns about De La Cruz’s behavior towards her stepdaughter, as reported by PEOPLE:

“Hernandez said his daughter is in a ‘precarious and delicate state of mental health’ and that she had been hospitalized. He said his daughter would benefit from living with him at their home but that De La Cruz ‘has expressed that she would sooner divorce me than allow my child back in the residence.’

“Hernandez’s attorney, Katie Pearson Klein, tells PEOPLE, ’The text messages concerning her attitude towards his child are very disturbing. Any time you’re using f-words about a child and saying that if she comes to our home, the marriage is over — that’s very disturbing.’”

As new details about De La Cruz’s treatment of a minor in her care emerge, the silence from her national Republican backers speaks volumes. As the allegations against De La Cruz stack up, the NRCC and Kevin McCarthy must break their silence and say if they believe cruel treatment of children is disqualifying behavior for the candidates they choose to support for Congress.
