Last week, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez voted to protect vital programs that working families in Texas’s 34th Congressional District depend on, putting the needs of his constituents above tax cuts for billionaires.
While the House GOP rammed through their bill that would gut Medicaid for nearly 50,000 TX-34 residents, slash SNAP benefits for over 65,000 families in the district, and take money out of farmers’ wallets all to give more money to the wealthiest people in the country, Congressman Gonzalez took a stand for his constituents.
Medicaid covers nearly 30,000 seniors in TX-34 and, according to new reporting from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the GOP’s billionaire giveaway bill would cut Medicare by nearly $500 billion. These seniors would also be at risk of losing some or all of their health care under the GOP bill. Congressman Gonzalez has made protecting seniors a cornerstone of his time in office and continues to vote to ensure that their health care is not ripped away.
