Virginia Health Clinics Shutter Thanks to Jen Kiggans, Southampton Medical Center Also At Risk of Closure

Augusta Health closes three clinics in VA citing Kiggans’ Big, Ugly Bill; Southampton Medical Center serving Hampton Roads is also at risk

Congresswoman Jen Kiggans cast a decisive vote for Republicans’ budget bill that made the largest cuts to Medicaid in history. Now, Virginians will have less access to health care thanks to her vote.

Augusta Medical Group is “closing an urgent care clinic and two primary care clinics in response to the massive reconciliation bill Congress passed this summer” with backing from Kiggans. Impacted Virginians will now have to “travel further for their primary and emergency health care needs.”

And Southampton Medical Center, which serves Hampton Roads, is “at risk of shuttering its doors” because of Kiggans’ vote.
DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“Virginians are sadly already seeing the devastating consequences of Jen Kiggans’ disastrous vote to rip away health care and put rural hospitals and clinics on the chopping block. Virginians will now be forced to travel further, wait longer, and pay more money to receive primary and emergency care. It’s a devastating blow that could have been prevented if Kiggans had the backbone to stand up to her D.C. party bosses. Instead, Kiggans voted to hurt Commonwealth families and will be held accountable at the ballot box.”
