VOTED NO, TOOK THE DOUGH: Hinson and Miller-Meeks “Urge Priority Funding” After Trying to Block Critical Infrastructure Investments for IA

When Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks had the chance to support bipartisan legislation to fix roads and bridges in Eastern Iowa, they voted no on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal. But no one should be surprised that just weeks later, Hinson and Miller-Meeks are already trying to take the dough by requesting investments made possible through the funding they voted against.

This week, Hinson and Miller-Meeks signed onto a letter encouraging prioritizing funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal to modernize and expand locks and dams, which would help Iowa farmers ship goods to market, create good-paying construction jobs, and inject $72 billion more dollars into the U.S. economy. But if Hinson and Miller-Meeks had their way, these critical infrastructure investments would never be possible.

And this isn’t the first time Hinson and Miller-Meeks voted against Iowans’ interests. Hinson previously touted funding for a Mississippi River lock and dam project as “a huge win for the Midwest” and then voted against the appropriations bills which included the funding she bragged about. Over the summer, Miller-Meeks voted against funding for community projects which she herself had requested.

“Eastern Iowa deserves better than typical politicians like Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who fall in line with their party bosses when they’re in Washington, D.C., and then try to cover up voting against Iowans’ interests when they’re back home,” said DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “The simple truth is that Hinson and Miller-Meeks stood in the way of infrastructure investments, job creation, and small business growth, and Iowans will see right through their attempts to rewrite their record.”
