These Vulnerable House Republicans Left Town for Recess without Even Signing on to the DREAM Act

Nearly the entire House Republican caucus left Washington for a week-long recess without adding their names to the bipartisan DREAM Act – a bill that would permanently protect and legalize DREAMers currently threatened by President Trump’s Administration.

The below vulnerable House Republicans were amongst the Republicans failing to protect DREAMers. Keep in mind, signing on to this legislation is the bare minimum these Republicans can do to protect DREAMers, and they should be expected to lobby their colleagues to protect their own constituents:

  • AZ-02 – Martha McSally
  • CA-22 – Devin Nunes
  • CA-25 – Steve Knight
  • CA-39 – Ed Royce
  • CA-45 – Mimi Walters
  • CA-48 – Dana Rohrabacher
  • CA-49 – Darrell Issa
  • CA-50 – Duncan Hunter
  • CO-03 – Scott Tipton
  • NE-02 – Don Bacon
  • TX-07 – John Culberson
  • TX-23 – Will Hurd
  • TX-32 – Pete Sessions

The failure to at least sign on to the DREAM Act is a direct contradiction to many House Republicans’ multiple calls for a legislative solution to protect the 800,000 DACA recipients that Trump has put at risk when he terminated DACA, but it is a clear indication that their priorities were never in line with protecting law-abiding DREAMers.

“By leaving town without signing on to and lobbying for the DREAM Act, House Republicans and Speaker Ryan showed that they’re not serious about finding a bipartisan legislative solution to protect the 800,000 law-abiding DREAMers who boost our economy,” said Javier Gamboa of the DCCC. “They must sign on to the DREAM Act. Every day that their names are absent from the DREAM Act is another day of failing to protect DREAMers that will haunt them in the midterms.”
