Vulnerable House Republicans Silent as Democratic and Republican Senators Condemn Tucker Carlson’s Depiction of January 6th

McCarthy offers no regrets, House Republicans remain silent as dangerous misinformation spews

Two nights ago and again last night, known conspiracy theorist Tucker Carlson attempted to skew footage of the January 6th insurrection and rewrite history on the deadly coup attempt. Carlson first obtained tapes of the insurrection from Kevin McCarthy weeks ago, reportedly as part of the weak leader’s promises made to far-right extremists as he struggled to be elected Speaker.

Vulnerable Republicans stood by McCarthy as he made backroom deals with far-right extremists in his bid for Speaker, then accepted every concession made by casting one of the deciding votes to make McCarthy Speaker on the 15th ballot. Tucker Carlson’s dangerous misuse of footage and attempted fabrication of history is only made possible by the vulnerable Republicans who went along with McCarthy’s concession.

Despite some Republican senators condemning the misuse of footage, House Republicans remain silent and Kevin McCarthy said he had “no” regrets in giving Carlson the footage.

DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“What did House Republicans expect to happen when they handed footage of a deadly insurrection over to a known conspiracy theorist and propagator of election fraud lies, like Tucker Carlson? Tucker Carlson’s dangerous misuse of January 6th footage is only possible because Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans folded and agreed to this far-right concession. House Republicans claim to support law enforcement but their blatant disregard for the brave women and men who defended democracy on that fateful day tells another story.”
