Vulnerable House Republicans Silent on Trump’s Dangerous Conduct, Pledge Fealty to Party Leader

NBC News: Most Republicans in Biden-won districts don’t want to talk about Trump indictment

Once again, vulnerable House Republicans are largely silent on their party’s dangerous calls to defund law enforcement agencies and the ex-president’s mishandling of national secrets.

NBC News reports:

“Most of the 18 House Republicans who represent districts that voted for President Joe Biden don’t want to talk about the elephant in the room: Donald Trump, the former president and front-runner for the 2024 GOP nomination, and his federal indictment over mishandled classified information.”

Several House Republicans – including those in New York – even refused to answer questions about Trump entirely:

“Some GOP lawmakers have publicly ignored the indictment entirely, including Reps. Marc Molinaro and Mike Lawler of New York. (Their offices didn’t respond to requests for comment.)”

This led the Washington Post to report on a “shift in the GOP” away from supporting law enforcement – noting that MAGA Republicans are promoting violence and slamming law enforcement agencies in response to the federal charges: “some allies have hinted at a violent response, putting authorities on high alert.”

REMINDER: Last month, the DCCC launched a billboard campaign from coast to coast, targeting 12 vulnerable House Republicans who represent districts President Biden won in 2020. These so-called moderate Republicans refused to condemn the twice-impeached, criminally-and-federally-indicted former president’s call to “defund the DOJ and FBI,” once again putting party loyalty above public safety.

DCCC spokesperson Courtney Rice:
“Republicans can no longer claim to be the party of law and order with their recent, repeated attacks on the law enforcement agencies that keep our communities safe. The DCCC will continue holding vulnerable House Republicans accountable for putting fealty to their party and a federally-indicted, twice-impeached president over public safety.”
