After campaigning for years on lowering gas prices, House Republicans have no answer for their constituents and are eager to deflect the blame.

House Republicans promised in 2022 and 2024 to lower gas prices, but those same members have been caught breaking that promise as they fall in line to support policies and Trump’s reckless war of choice.
After running ads in 2023 promising to lower gas prices, saying filling up his gas tank was “scary,” Tom Barrett (R, MI-07) is dismissing the struggles of people in his district who can’t afford the pain at the pump, instead changing the subject to Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Mike Lawler (R, NY-17) campaigned on gas prices and promised to lower them. But now that he’s failed miserably, he’s telling his community that higher prices are “worth it” — completely tone deaf.
DCCC Spokesperson Liam Buckley:
“Vulnerable House Republicans got caught in a lie and it’s going to cost them their jobs in November. Skyrocketing gas prices are a regular reminder for everyday Americans that Republicans broke their promise to lower prices and only care about obeying their party bosses in D.C.”
