| Tonight, an overwhelming majority of House Republicans, including the most vulnerable members, voted to shield Donald Trump from Congressional oversight on his sweeping, reckless tariffs.
The pivotal vote comes as a new report from the Tax Foundation found Trump’s tariffs cost the average American household $1,000 last year. The cost is expected to rise in 2026 to $1,300 if existing tariffs that House Republicans voted on today stay in place.
This isn’t the first time these corrupt Republicans have voted to rubber stamp Trump’s sweeping tariffs. In September of 2025, House Republicans voted to protect price-hiking tariffs, after doing the same thing in March of 2025. Tonight’s vote would have shielded necessary oversight until the Summer of 2026, but all Democrats and a handful of Republicans voted against.
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Vulnerable House Republicans have been caught dead-to-rights by voting to raise costs for hardworking families. These are the same extremists who pledged to lower the cost of living during the 2024 campaign. Promises made, promises broken.” |
