After already raising energy prices on Americans when they passed the Big, Ugly Law, House Republicans voted for another bill that will lead to even higher energy costs for American families
Despite electricity prices rising twice as fast as inflation this year, vulnerable House Republicans fell in line and voted to raise energy bills on hardworking Americans today.
House Republicans pushed through an extreme funding bill that slashes nearly half the budget for programs designed to lower utility bills and deliver more clean, affordable energy.
The program most negatively affected by the Republican spending bill is the Weatherization Assistance Program, which reduces energy costs for families through energy efficiency. In addition to spiking utility costs for people, Republicans also take a cleaver to funding dedicated to keeping our energy grid reliable and resilient, endangering the overall integrity of America’s energy system.
REMINDER:Under the Big, Ugly Law, households nationwide would pay $170 billion more in increased energy bills over the next decade. On average, consumers would see their energy bills increase by more than $260 per year in 2035, with some states seeing household energy bills increase even more, such as a spike of $630 in annual costs in Kentucky.
DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton: “House Republicans have now voted TWICE this year to raise energy costs on hardworking Americans. It’s both political malpractice and incredibly cruel to millions of Americans struggling to pay their bills. As working families across the country see their utility bills go up and up, the DCCC will make sure everyone knows who’s to blame when they vote in 2026.”
