Vulnerable NY Republicans Accused of Breaking Campaign Finance Law

Freshmen Reps. D’Esposito, LaLota, and Molinaro accused of unlawful campaign spending

Increasingly vulnerable freshmen members Anthony D’Esposito, Nick LaLota, and Marc Molinaro are all being accused of unlawfully transferring thousands of dollars between campaign accounts during the 2022 cycle.

All three allegedly used their state campaign accounts to illegally support their campaigns for Congress. According to FEC rules, all transfers between state and federal campaign committees like this are prohibited and a clear violation of campaign finance laws.

Additionally, D’Esposito is accused of “excessive and impermissible in-kind contributions” for illegally using state campaign funds on print and advertising, rent, cellphones, volunteer expenses, and mail services in Washington, D.C., and spending over $97,000 in connection with a golf fundraiser advocating for D’Esposito’s run for Congress.

While the FEC receives these complaints to launch an investigation into these clear violations, Molinaro, D’Esposito, and LaLota are supporting their radical colleagues’ extreme efforts to pass a job-killing plan that would tank the economy.

It’s clear these Republicans don’t represent the hard-working families and workers in New York.

DCCC Spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre:
“Anthony D’Esposito, Nick Lalota, and Marc Molinaro appear to have as much regard for election law as their corrupt campaign donor George Santos. New Yorkers deserve better than these three who clearly cannot be trusted to follow the law, and need to be held accountable for these violations of campaign finance rules.”
