Vulnerable Rep. Ann Wagner is Complicit in Continued Threat to Abortion Rights

As SCOTUS hears oral arguments to decide the fate of Roe v. Wade, Rep. Ann Wagner (MO-02) is on the wrong side of history

Today, the Supreme Court hears oral arguments on Texas bill S.B. 8, the draconian six-week abortion ban that unconstitutionally eliminates nearly all abortion access. This disgraceful bill seeks to overturn more than 50 years of protections solidified under Roe v. Wade by using a “sue thy neighbor” scheme to call on vigilante bounty hunters to threaten and attack a person’s right to reproductive health care.

Let’s be clear: A woman’s right to make her own decision about her body is on the line because of Republican extremism at every level of government across the country. From the extremists in state legislatures passing laws like the Texas ban, to the extremists in Congress pushing the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and end access to safe, legal abortion in this country, Republicans are an existential threat to women’s freedoms and health care.

Reproductive rights are on the ballot — everywhere.

Rep. Ann Wagner’s record shows that she is part of the problem. In July, Ann Wagner signed an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, despite the fact that the longstanding decision is supported by 77% of the American people. In September, when the House of Representatives brought the Women’s Health Protection Act to the floor to protect abortion and reproductive health care, Ann Wagner voted “NO” along with the rest of the disgraceful GOP.

“Every day that Texas’s abortion ban remains in effect is a devastating, dangerous attack on women’s constitutional right to reproductive health care,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Voters in Missouri will never forget that when given an opportunity to protect women’s rights and health, Ann Wagner abandoned her constituents and the vast majority of Americans that support access to safe and legal abortion.”
