Vulnerable Rep. Tom McClintock Is Complicit In Continued Threat to Abortion Rights

As SCOTUS hears oral arguments to decide the fate of Roe v. Wade, Rep. Tom McClintock will be on the wrong side of history

Today, the Supreme Court hears oral arguments on Texas bill S.B. 8, the draconian six-week abortion ban that unconstitutionally eliminates nearly all abortion access. This disgraceful bill seeks to overturn over 50 years of protections solidified under Roe v. Wade by using a “sue thy neighbor” scheme to call on vigilante bounty hunters to threaten and attack a person’s right to reproductive health care.

Let’s be clear: A woman’s right to make her own decision about her body is on the line because of Republican extremism at every level of government across the country. From the extremists in state legislatures passing laws like Texas’, to the extremists in Congress pushing the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and end access to safe, legal abortion in this country, Republicans are an existential threat to women’s freedoms and health care.

Reproductive rights are on the ballot — everywhere.

Rep. McClintock’s record shows that he is part of the problem. In July, Tom McClintock signed an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, despite the fact that the longstanding decision is supported by 77% of the American people. In September, when the House of Representatives brought the Women’s Health Protection Act to the floor to protect abortion and reproductive health care, McClintock voted “NO” along with the rest of the disgraceful GOP.

DCCC Spokesperson Adrian Eng-Gastelum

“Every day that Texas’ backwards law remains in effect, women’s constitutional rights are being violated. Voters in California will never forget that, when given an opportunity to protect women’s rights and health, Rep. Tom McClintock abandoned his constituents and the vast majority of Americans that support access to safe and legal abortion.”
