Republican Ann Wagner’s failed leadership in MO-02 has made her one of the most vulnerable members of Congress in the country – and today, she was put on notice when she got her first Democratic challenger of the 2022 cycle.
Earlier this year, Wagner turned her back on working families and small businesses across Missouri when she voted against the American Rescue Plan and opposed House Democratic efforts to kickstart our pandemic-battered economy. In the weeks that followed, Wagner shamelessly catered to extremists by voting against a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection — putting the politics of her would-be U.S. Senate campaign above uncovering the truth about the violent mob that swarmed the Capitol and endangered the lives of members, staff, Capitol Police, and the Vice President.
Voters in Missouri won’t forget that Ann Wagner turned her back on her district – and from now until Election Day, she’ll have to answer for her record of voting against pandemic relief and covering up the truth about the violent attack on our democracy.
“Ann Wagner’s extreme record has made her one of the most endangered members of Congress,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Instead of working to deliver COVID-19 relief to small businesses, veterans, and working families in her district, Ann Wagner is locked in a race to the bottom with the other extremist Missouri Republicans who have their sights set on climbing the political ladder. Ann Wagner’s priorities are shamefully out of step with Missourians — it’s no wonder she’s looking to jump ship rather than face her dismal re-election prospects with the voters she turned her back on.”
Missouri voters won’t forget Ann Wagner’s extreme, out-of-step record of:
-
Voting against the American Rescue Plan, which delivered more than $315 million in funding to counties that make up MO-02, provided resources to get the vaccine to Missourians, sent $1,400 checks to many households, provided support for hardest-hit small businesses like restaurants and music venues, and helped get people back to work as employers got access to loans,
-
Voting against a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection when an armed, violent mob swarmed the Capitol and endangered the lives of members, staff, Capitol Police, and the Vice President,
-
Siding with her campaign donors when she voted to overhaul financial industry regulations — it’s no wonder her district’s largest newspaper warned that “Wagner’s loyalty to [the] financial industry stinks of swamp politics,” and that the “last thing she wants is for voters to know how deeply she is in the pockets of payday lenders and big banking interests,”
-
Raising millions from Wall Street donors and big corporations in campaign contributions over the course of her career,
-
Taking more than a quarter million dollars from Big Pharma and voting against legislation that would allow the government to negotiate lower drug prices,
-
Touting her “proud” vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act — the health care law that protects people with pre-existing conditions and provided many Missourians with health care during a global pandemic — and defund Planned Parenthood, and
-
Cheering “Freedom!” while discussing her vote to gut the Affordable Care Act and impose an age tax and gut coverage for 43,100 Missourians in the 2nd District.
