Vulnerable Republican Beth Van Duyne Urges Supreme Court to Ban Safe, Legal Abortion

Van Duyne turns her back on Texas women in amicus brief urging Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade; 50 years of legal precedent

Today, vulnerable Republican Beth Van Duyne joined her most extreme colleagues and urged the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, a move that aims to end safe, legal abortion and throw reproductive rights in jeopardy for women across Texas.

Despite the fact that 77% of Americans support Roe v. Wade and its protections, 184 House Republicans signed an amicus brief to urge the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and end 50 years of legal precedent when it considers a restrictive 15-week ban out of Mississippi next term.

Beth Van Duyne’s call to end safe, legal abortion is the latest proof that she is too extreme and out-of-step — and Texas women deserve better than this shameful attack on their health care.

“Rather than standing up for Texans, Beth Van Duyne is launching an all-out attack on reproductive health care,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Most Americans overwhelmingly agree that it’s not up to politicians to make personal health care decisions for women. So it’s absolutely shameful that Beth is spending her time in Congress taking aim at women’s health care instead of focusing on helping working families in TX-24 recover from this pandemic.”
