Vulnerable Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin’s Abrupt Plans for Departure a Signal: GOP Staring Down Long Tenure in the Minority

As scandals plague House Republicans, Zeldin looking for an out as any hope of leaving the minority drifts

House Republicans are in absolute disarray. Now, caught clinging to scandal laden colleagues like Rep. Matt Gaetz while whipping up outrage with a voter suppression campaign designed to rip away the right to vote from the American people, some Republicans are looking for an out.

So, it’s no wonder Trump loyalist and vulnerable House Republican Lee Zeldin is on the run from his Republican caucus — he’s watching any chance of leaving the Minority slip away.

While House Republicans ditch and dodge questions over their scandal laden colleague Rep. Matt Gaetz this week, Zeldin is aiming to ditch House Republicans altogether.

DCCC Spokesperson Chris Taylor:

“House Republicans are already facing the stark reality that denying Americans critical economic relief in a pandemic, egging on the Big Lie that caused an insurrection on the United States Capitol, and clinging to scandal laden colleagues like Rep. Matt Gaetz is not all that popular with American voters. House Republicans ought to get comfortable in the Minority – they’ll be there for a while – or they can run like Zeldin.”
