RE:           Vulnerable Republicans’ Extreme Votes Will Cost Them Their Jobs Next November as They Put Party Over People
_______________________________________________________

For the first seven months of the 118th Congress, vulnerable House Republicans have voted overwhelmingly with their party and with extreme MAGA Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene. The most vulnerable Republicans in the House – those representing districts President Biden won in 2020 – vote on average nearly 94% of the time with the MAGA extremists running their party. Rather than showing independence or bipartisan leadership, these party hacks have fallen in line behind their extreme party bosses.

Despite campaign promises to be independent, these vulnerable Republicans time and time again have voted in lockstep with the most extreme MAGA Members in their party to rip away women’s reproductive freedom, cut services for veterans, defund law enforcement, gut manufacturing jobs, and uphold a culture of corruption in Washington – all while ignoring the kitchen table issues like lowering costs and creating good-paying jobs. Expect to see ties to extreme Republicans and these key issues in paid media against vulnerable Republicans next fall.

WHAT VOTERS WILL HEAR ABOUT NEXT FALL

Gutting Local Manufacturing Jobs

Vulnerable Republicans chose to put loyalty to the fringes of their party over protecting manufacturing jobs across the country when they voted for the Default on America Act. Their disastrous legislation would have jeopardized over 142,000 new jobs created by the Inflation Reduction Act, including 18,000 manufacturing jobs. Many of these jobs are in states like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Cutting Services for Veterans

Every vulnerable Republican joined extreme MAGA Republicans and voted to pass disastrous cuts to services that veterans depend on. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, their plan would cut nearly 81,000 health service jobs within the VA, cause 30 million fewer veteran outpatient visits, and lead to a dramatic increase in the disability claims backlog. This extreme bill would also severely cut essential services for struggling veterans, including housing support, food assistance, mental health and substance abuse services, and job training programs.

Defunding Law Enforcement

Vulnerable Republicans in the House followed their MAGA party bosses over the cliff to vote for sweeping cuts to federal law enforcement. Every vulnerable Republican in the House voted to cut nearly $17 billion in funding for federal law enforcement, courts, and prisons that support public safety. This vote threatened nearly 30,000 law enforcement jobs across the country, making it harder for officers to prevent violent crimes, crack down on gun violence, and prevent terrorism. Vulnerable Republicans have also refused to condemn the disgraced, criminally indicted, and twice-impeached ex-President Donald Trump called on Congressional Republicans to “defund the DOJ and FBI.”

Ripping Away Reproductive Freedom

Women and their families should have the freedom to make their own health care decisions, but that hasn’t stopped Republicans from waging an all-out effort to insert themselves into these private decisions. House Republicans are using any means necessary to enact their end goal of a national abortion ban, including attaching an unnecessary provision to one of their funding bills that would restrict access to the abortion medication mifepristone. This safe medication is used in 53% of all abortions in the country.  And in one of their first votes at the beginning of the year, every vulnerable Republican voted in support of anti-choice legislation that could punish doctors and rip away women’s reproductive freedom.

Protecting Corruption in Congress

Earlier this year, every vulnerable Republican cowered in the face of their radical GOP bosses and voted to protect George Santos from being expelled. George Santos is a liar and an indicted criminal who has disgraced his office and lied time and time again to the people of his district. Instead of holding Santos accountable and cleaning up the corruption in Washington, vulnerable Republicans doubled down and voted to keep him in Congress – all so they could keep his vote in their slim majority and take his campaign money.

Bottom line: Between voting for poison pill legislation that guts jobs, restricts reproductive freedoms, and makes our communities less safe, Republicans are signing their own pink slips. The DCCC is committed to making sure voters hear and see about these disastrous votes – where vulnerable Republicans prioritized party over people – ahead of next November’s election.
