WAKE UP CALL: DCCC Delivers Energy Drinks to “Sleepy Schweikert” After He Slept Through Critical Health Care, SNAP Vote

David Schweikert admitted to falling asleep during vote to rip health care, food assistance away from thousands of his own constituents

The DCCC today sent “Sleepy Schweikert” a wake up call: Arizonans will hold Schweikert accountable for helping Republicans rip away their health care and take food out of their mouths.

More than 2.1 million Arizonans depend on Medicaid for their health coverage, including 156,500 of Schweikert’s own constituents. Recent analysis shows that tens of thousands of people in Schweikert’s district would lose their health care if Schweikert and House Republicans’ plan becomes law. More than 18,700 households in Schweikert’s district are also at risk of going hungry under the GOP Tax Scam.
 

 
Schweikert has repeatedly confirmed that — if he was awake — he would have voted YES on the GOP Tax Scam that guts Arizonans’ health care to pay for permanent tax cuts for billionaires. Schweikert previously greenlit the bill as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“David Schweikert laughed while admitting to sleeping through a vote to kick thousands of his own constituents off their health care – then quickly clarified he would have voted yes. Arizonans are going to make sure that Schweikert isn’t laughing next November.”
