Wall Street Journal: The Oil Shock Is Causing a $45 Billion Rupture in the Economy

Americans have spent a total of $45 billion more on diesel and gasoline because of Trump and House Republicans’ war of choice in Iran. That added expense is crushing hardworking families and adding to voters’ discontent with the economy ahead of this year’s midterm elections.

The Wall Street Journal reports that “The surging costs are eating an outsize share of low- and middle-income consumers’ paychecks, darkening their outlook relative to the well-off.”

Despite campaigning on lowering gas prices, Republicans have been silent on the skyrocketing costs Americans are facing at the gas pump. With inflation rising and Trump’s economic approval reaching an all time low, voters are sounding off on the GOP’s failures to lower costs.

DCCC Spokesperson Liam Buckley:
“Hardworking families are struggling with the rising cost of gas and diesel, and Republicans are squarely to blame. They lied to voters about lowering costs and launched a reckless war of choice with no end in sight. The American people are tired of House Republicans’ broken promises, and they’re going to vote them out in November.”
