Washington Republicans Giving Up On MN-02

NRCC doesn’t name a single “Young Gun” in same field Kline said was disappointing

Ouch. Merely days after retiring Congressman John Kline told reporters he was “disappointed” in and “concerned” with the current field of GOP candidates in Minnesotan’s 2nd District, it’s clear Washington Republicans agree.

Not a single one of the Republican candidates named to the NRCC’s “Young Guns” program that supports candidates running in competitive congressional seats are from MN-02.

If you need a reminder why the NRCC might have thrown up their hands, here are a few highlights:

  • Every single one wants to repeal health care reform (one of them referring to how “Baby Huey” shouldn’t be allowed to stay on his parents’ health insurance)
  • Every single one (except newcomer Rechtzigel) wants to defund Planned Parenthood over the criminal allegations against the women’s health care clinic that have not only been thrown out by courts around the country, but whose two creators have now been indicted

“It’s obvious national Republicans have suffered more recruitment failures and embarrassing gaffes than they cope with, and are throwing up their hands and walking away,” said DCCC spokeswoman Sacha Haworth. “Whichever third-tier Republican candidate limps out of this primary will have already been abandoned by the Republican establishment.”
