Washington Republicans Want to Cut Medicare. So Does Kevin Coughlin.

Kevin Coughlin supports slashing Medicaid to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations – the latest in his long record of being “committed” to cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Now, Coughlin’s allies in Washington are turning their chainsaw against Ohio’s seniors.

Multiple prominent Senate Republicans have called for making cuts to Medicare to pay for handouts to billionaires. And this would be on top of the nearly $500 billion in cuts to Medicare that the GOP’s Tax Scam will already trigger as currently written in the bill that Coughlin supports.

Does Kevin Coughlin support these cuts, too? If history’s any indicator, all signs point to yes. 

Reminder of Coughlin’s long record of support for cutting Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security:

• For more than a decade, Coughlin has been trying to end Medicare as we know it and hack up Social Security.
• Coughlin has long advocated for cuts to Social Security and Medicare, including but not limited to: converting Medicare into a voucher program, raising the eligibility age, and capping “spending in such a way that cuts to Medicare and Social Security would […] be unavoidable.”
• Coughlin said “there have to be entitlement reforms” and “benefits that people get are going to be cut.”
