Watch David Valadao Go Full Trump on Immigration During Interview, Praises Detention Centers

During a recent interview, vulnerable Republican David Valadao sounded more like President Trump when he was talking about immigration than the moderate he likes to pretend he is.

  • On President Trump’s wasteful and expensive border wall: “there’s a lot of things going on at the border I think they’re handling the right way.

  • On a detention center for immigrants: They’re free to roam around within their cell blocks. They have TVs and video games…”

  • On ending family separation: “It’s not a simple task… there are times where families are being separated, and so it makes for a very confusing time.

But this shouldn’t surprise anyone, after all, it was David Valadao who abandoned his own efforts to bring the DREAM Act to the floor and allowed the far right of his party to bring two anti-immigrant bills for a vote. And in June, Valadao got called out by the Fresno Bee for “asking his constituents to weigh morality vs. law and order at the U.S.-Mexican border.”

He’s no moderate when it comes to immigration. David Valadao has only been using this issue when it’s politically convenient in this heavily-Latino district.

“Congressman David Valadao is once again falling in line with Donald Trump and his Republican Party masters in Washington and praising their disgusting immigration plan to separate parents and their children,” said DCCC spokesperson Javier Gamboa. “David Valadao’s constituents are seeing right through his empty promises to protect DREAMers, hardworking immigrants and ending family separation, and they will make their voices heard this November when they choose TJ Cox because they know they can count on him to get the job done.”
