WATCH: Derek Tran Fighting Back Against Corporate Greed in Washington

At the California Democratic Convention, Congressman Derek Tran delivered a fiery speech, calling out House Republicans for gutting health care and food assistance for millions of Californians and ripping jobs away from  veterans – all to serve the interests of corporate billionaires.

Tran highlighted his work in Congress to protect America’s values, strengthen working families, and ensure government actually serves the people who need it most.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • I remember those early years living on assistance, my family having to use food stamps with government issued milk and cheese. It’s why in high school, I enlisted in the Army Reserve to give back to the country that gave my family so much.
  • And it’s why after I left the army, I went to law school to uphold the liberties and rights my parents came to America for. Rights and liberties that are under attack in Washington, D.C.
  • As a workers rights attorney here in Orange County, I saw day after day what can happen when the deck is stacked against the little guy, and it’s what I see day after day in Washington, D.C with corporate billionaires running this White House and the Republican controlled Congress.
  • My wife, Michelle, and I own a small pharmacy right here in Anaheim. We see firsthand the complexities and the greed within our health care system and how families struggle to meet their most basic needs – and that is before Republicans, in the dead of night, voted to gut Medicaid.
  • Time and time again, we have seen politicians line their own pockets and then vote against the people who elected them to represent them.
  • We are seeing Donald Trump disregard the rule of law and enrich himself and his cronies every day selling pardons for a million bucks with no checks, no balances.
  • Earlier this year, I introduced the Protect Veteran Jobs Act to immediately reinstate those who were fired by Trump from their jobs without cause.
  • After their service. These individuals signed up once again to serve their country, only to be cast aside and disregarded, along with the values our country was founded on.
  • This week, I will get on a plane to go fight for the veterans and all of you in Congress, to fight for the values and promises my parents came to this country for
