| Things are getting uncomfortable for vulnerable Republican Ryan Mackenzie.
During a PBS News Hour interview, Mackenzie was confronted about his broken promise to lower prices for Lehigh Valley families. The host brought receipts: She pointed out that at the Giant store in Allentown, the price of an apple is up 12 percent and the price of chicken breast is up 9 percent.
Mackenzie’s response to families who are struggling with rising grocery prices under his leadership? “It is a challenge.” Yikes.
PBS News Hour Host: “The top issue, I don’t have to tell you for Americans, remains the economy and that includes prices. I looked at the largest grocery store in your district which I think is the Giant store in Allentown and checked their prices. A honeycrisp apple… even on sale, that’s 12 percent higher the cost today than it was a year ago, national average. Chicken breast – I’m a mom, I use chicken breast all the time – that price is up nine percent at your local grocery store from last year. President Trump promised that grocery prices would come down. How do you respond to those who look at you and say Republicans have failed?”
Congressman Ryan Mackenzie: “[…] When it comes to grocery prices in particular, it is a challenge, there is no doubt.”
