WATCH: Iowans Boo Ashley Hinson As She Defends Slashing Medicaid to Pay for Tax Breaks to Billionaires

Des Moines Register: “The crowd erupted with anger over [Hinson’s] support for the GOP tax bill.”

Ashley Hinson, call your office!

In case you missed it, Hinson had a brutal day yesterday as she was forced to face her constituents for the first time since casting the deciding vote to pass the GOP tax scam.

Hinson “stood by her decision to vote for Medicaid cuts,” while Iowans were loud and clear (quite literally, with “loud boos from the crowd”) – they aren’t buying Hinson’s spin, and they don’t support her vote to slash Medicaid while giving tax cuts to the ultra-rich.

See the brutal, boo-filled coverage for yourself:

KCRG: “Some people booed, others walked out. It might be best to describe some of the people at the town meeting as ‘frustrated.’ Particularly, they’re worried about changes to Medicaid…”

“Another attendee I spoke with said she didn’t think the crowd felt like their feelings had been taken into consideration.”

KCRG: Ashley Hinson booed at town hall meeting in Elkader

  • Rep. Ashley Hinson held her second town hall of the year – this first in eastern Iowa – in Elkader on Tuesday… and many attendees had a lot to say.
  • It comes after Hinson was jeered at a town hall meeting in Mason City last month.
  • The biggest point of contention came when Hinson voiced her support for President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” which, among other things, establishes new eligibility requirements for Medicaid.
  • Another attendee and Elkader resident, Jane Metcalf, said she thinks many in the crowd – including herself – don’t feel listened to.
  • “I always think a representative should do that. Not hold on to what they think is right, but to actually listen to us. And I don’t feel like that really happened today, to be quite frank.” she said.

  • Hinson…highlight[ed] her work in Congress, including with the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) spearheaded by Tesla CEO and billionaire Elon Musk.
  • Neil Henkenius of Manchester told Hinson during the Elkader town hall that as a veteran, he thinks giving Musk’s authority to lead DOGE is like giving a “billionaire a chainsaw.”
  • “I’m not only speaking for myself, but I’m speaking for all of the veterans, all of the federal workers that are out there,” Henkenius said. “People don’t need a billionaire, like Musk, running our country.”
