WATCH: Jeremy Shaffer Tries to Have It Both Ways on Abortion

Shaffer tries to punt issue to the states to distract from his support of a federal “pro-life constitutional amendment”

The fallout of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has caught Jeremy Shaffer between two conflicting positions.

Shaffer previously stated he wanted a federal constitutional amendment to ban abortion with no exceptions in the cases of rape and incest – now he says he supports both that and kicking it to individual states to decide.

It should be noted Shaffer’s preferred candidate for PA governor, Doug Mastriano, supports banning abortion with no exceptions – even to save the life of the mother – and throwing doctors in jail.

From the KDKA report and watch here:

Shaffer does support a pro-life constitutional amendment but says he opposes other federal bills, saying this is now a state issue.

Shaffer’s mental gymnastics on this issue illustrates the impossible position swing district Republicans have put themselves in – they can’t appease their narrow base while appealing to the vast majority of voters who want abortion rights constitutionally protected.

DCCC Spokesperson James Singer
“Jeremy Shaffer can try to confuse voters all he wants with his conflicting positions, but what is crystal clear is that Shaffer would align with Doug Mastriano to strip away PA women’s rights.”
