WATCH: Josh Harder Standing Up for Valley Health Care, Infrastructure Projects

On Medicaid:“We’re going to see collateral damage, thousands of job losses… hospital closures, nursing homes going bankrupt, an awful lot of pain for absolutely no benefit other than to the wealthiest Americans who would get yet another tax cut” – Harder

Congressman Josh Harder spoke to Inside California Politics about the devastating impacts the GOP’s Tax Scam will have on his constituents, as House Republicans pass their “big, beautiful” Medicaid cuts to pay for tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.

As a fiscally responsible leader on the Appropriations Committee, Harder touched on what really happens to Californians’ wallets when Republican lawmakers’ words don’t match their deeds – as well as his laser-focus on lowering costs, expediting infrastructure projects and delivering real results for the Valley.

Here’s what he had to say….

On Medicaid cuts…
  • Estimates are that 42,000 residents of San Joaquin County would lose their health care coverage completely if this bill becomes law, and that’s going to affect all of us. Ultimately, we would see premiums more than double, higher out of pocket costs for every single American in California.
  • We’re going to see collateral damage, thousands of job losses, nurses and doctors that we already don’t have enough of. And ultimately, hospital closures, nursing homes going bankrupt, an awful lot of pain for absolutely no benefit other than to the wealthiest Americans who would get yet another tax cut.
  • This bill is going to add $5 trillion to the national debt…I’m one of the most fiscally responsible members in Congress. I worked as a businessman before coming into office. We need to balance our debt. The way to do that is not by giving a massive tax cut to the richest Americans while cutting nutrition assistance and health care from Americans who need it most.
  • [This bill] makes absolutely no sense when we need to be lowering the cost of living because people are already paying way too much.

On Trade Wars…
  • The Central Valley depends on trade. 80% of the world’s almonds are grown in the Central Valley…We have to be able to get our products to the rest of the world, and we can’t do that if we’re starting these trade wars that are hurting our farmers and increasing costs for everybody at the grocery store.

On Water and Infrastructure Projects…
  • We need to solve our water problems across our state…[by] investing in groundwater recharge, surface storage and recycling…to make sure that we can have more water available for all who need it.
  • We’ve made it way too difficult to build anything in California, not just high speed rail, but housing, energy infrastructure, roads, bridges, everything that makes our state continue to move forward.
  • So absolutely, we need to own this, and, more importantly, we need to fix it.
