WATCH: Leela Gray Releases First General Election Ad Hitting Anna Paulina Luna’s Record of Corruption

Retired Army Brigadier General Leela Gray released her first ad of the general election, hitting Anna Paulina Luna for her record of self-service and corruption in Washington.

From enriching herself off her donor’s company, allegedly sharing insider information with a donor for them to profit on prediction markets, and voting to give massive, permanent tax breaks to billionaires on the backs of Floridians’ health care and food assistance – Luna has proven she’s only looking out for herself and her wealthy friends. Gray, who spent 30 years putting service over self in the military, is contrasting that record with her own anti-corruption agenda for FL-13.

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“Anna Paulina Luna has turned her seat in Congress into a side hustle – cashing in with donors while Floridians get squeezed by the cost of health care, gas, and groceries. Leela Gray spent 30 years serving our country; Luna spent her time in Washington serving herself. Voters in FL-13 see the difference, and in November, they’re going to act on it.”

Leela Gray: “People are really suffering right now. They understand this culture of corruption that’s driving up costs and they’re sick of it. They’re tired of business as usual. They want change. … [Luna] has been absent in the district. She refuses to hold a town hall…I have Republicans coming to me and saying, ‘I need help,’ and [Luna] refuses to help them. … We’re going to see a dramatic change on November 3rd.”

“My entire life has been about service over self. And that is the opposite of what she’s doing. She has been a rubber stamp to this cost of living crisis that’s been foisted upon my district and the American people.”

Semafor: Exclusive / Luna challenger links her to ‘culture of corruption’

  • …Leela Gray is launching her first ad against Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna in Florida, calling her “part of the problem in DC, including the culture of corruption.”
  • Gray, a retired Army Brigadier General, says in the ad first shared with Semafor that she is running on “making life more affordable,” accusing Luna of giving “insider information to her donor while our costs are out of control.”
  • The ad also features…a Tampa Bay Times writeup of…allegations Luna gave tips to a conservative influencer about Trump’s vice presidential pick to bet on Polymarket.
  • Democrats see Luna’s district as flippable despite Florida drifting rightward in previous cycles. Some recent polling showed the two candidates statistically tied, or Gray narrowly leading.

Florida Politics: Leela Gray launches 6-figure ad buy targeting Anna Paulina Luna on costs, corruption

  • ‘Mission’ pairs Gray’s military background with an aggressive case against the Republican incumbent.
  • The ad builds on an argument Gray has increasingly made since securing the Democratic nomination, that Luna is more focused on Washington politics and her own profile than on the economic pressures facing voters in the district.
  • The spot also follows a week in which Gray sharpened those same lines of attack.
  • …Gray challenged Luna to a televised General Election debate in the district, saying voters deserved to hear both candidates defend their records and positions.
  • “If she is proud of her record, she should have no problem defending it,” Gray said in issuing the challenge.
  • After Luna appeared at the Republican National Committee’s Midterm Convention in Dallas the following day, Gray escalated that criticism by calling Luna a “Washington insider more concerned with getting famous and rich than improving the lives of her constituents.”
  • “The residents of Florida’s 13th Congressional District are hurting because of Luna’s blind party loyalty and corruption. That is why they will fire her on November 3rd.”
  • “Mission” emphasizes that contrast by framing Luna as part of the Washington establishment and emphasizing Gray’s military background with promises to focus on affordability.
  • “I will always focus on the mission, serving you,” Gray says in closing.

Tampa Bay Times: Anna Paulina Luna, Leela Gray spar over corruption in new ads

  • Retired Brig. Gen. Leela Gray, the Democrat running against Luna in her red-leaning district, released her first general election ad Tuesday, touting her 30 years of military service and combat deployment while knocking Luna as “part of the problem in D.C., including the culture of corruption.”
  • Democrats are making Luna’s seat a key target as they vie to reclaim control of the U.S. House…the party is hoping Trump’s underwater approval ratings will hurt Luna, whose personal brand is closely tied to the president’s.
  • “She’s giving insider information to her donor while our costs are out of control,” Gray says in the 30-second ad, set to run on television and digital platforms…

  • Gray is out with her own six-figure TV and digital ad…highlighting her 30 years in the Army. In the ad, she brings attention to high costs and blames Luna for being part of a “culture of corruption” in Washington.
