WATCH: NEW DCCC AD HOLDS YOUNG ACCOUNTABLE FOR RECORD ON PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS

Today, the DCCC released its latest TV ad in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District race targeting Rep. David Young for his record of voting to penalize Iowans with pre-existing conditions like asthma, cancer and diabetes.

The ad, “50 percent,” tells voters that Rep. David Young has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from the insurance industry and repeatedly voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would’ve allowed insurers to deny protections for those with pre-existing conditions. In 2017, he voted for the AHCA, which the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and Politifact confirmed would gut protections for those with pre-existing conditions like asthma, cancer and diabetes.

“When Rep. David Young had the opportunity to stand up for Iowans with pre-existing conditions like asthma, cancer and diabetes, he sided with his donors and Party bosses,” said DCCC spokesperson Rachel Irwin. “Young has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from the insurance industry while voting to allow insurance companies to charge people with pre-existing conditions more. Young’s failure to do right by Iowans with pre-existing conditions will be remembered in November.”

Along with voting for the AHCA, Young voted for the GOP Tax Scam that prioritized tax cuts for his wealthy donors while repealing a key provision of the ACA that will force Iowans to pay more in premiums for healthcare. Young’s vote opened the door for the GOP and the Trump administration to seek a lawsuit dismantling protections for those with pre-existing conditions, like asthma, cancer and diabetes, in federal court.

Script:

50 percent.

That is how many Iowans under 65 in David Young’s district have pre-existing conditions, but Young voted to deny protections for their healthcare coverage.

That means people with asthma or diabetes could pay higher rates and people with cancer or heart disease could be priced out altogether.

But Young took thousands in campaign cash from the insurance industry and voted their way.

David Young still not looking out for Iowa.
