Rep. David Young has a history of putting special interests ahead of his constituents, and there’s no greater example of that than his votes to raise healthcare costs on Iowans. Who can forget David Young’s flip-flop on the AHCA after Paul Ryan’s Super PAC threatened to pull its support?
As Young reaps the benefits of their support, Iowans are on the hook to pay the price back home. Young and Washington Republicans have undermined the ACA at every turn. Young voted for the AHCA, which would raise healthcare costs, in addition to slapping an age tax on older Americans, gutting protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and jeopardizing health insurance for 38,800 in his district. Let’s not forget his vote for the GOP Tax Scam that prioritized tax cuts for his wealthy donors while repealing a key provision of the ACA that will force Iowans to pay more in premiums for healthcare.
Now, as healthcare premiums are expected to rise by double digits, Young refuses to take a stand against the Trump Administration’s efforts to dismantle protections for those with pre-existing conditions, like asthma, cancer and diabetes, in federal court.
“As Congressman Young heads back to D.C., Iowans will be reminded of his harmful healthcare record back home,” said DCCC spokesperson Rachel Irwin. “Young has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from insurance companies while voting to raise healthcare costs for Iowa families and seniors. Young’s vote to gut protections for those with pre-existing conditions like asthma, cancer and diabetes will be a huge liability as healthcare remains a top issue for voters this November.”
Script:
Around here, we look out for each other. And put our neighbors first.
But Congressman David Young took thousands in campaign cash from the insurance industry.
And voted to allow insurance companies to deny coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.
Young even voted for a healthcare plan that allows an age tax, letting insurers raise premiums for people over fifty.
David Young is looking out for special interests. Not Iowa.
