WATCH: NEW DCCC MI-08 AD SLAMS BOUGHT-AND-PAID-FOR MIKE BISHOP & HIS HARMFUL HEALTHCARE RECORD

WATCH “ROI”

Rep. Mike Bishop has a long history of putting his special interests donors ahead of his constituents, and there’s no greater example of that than his votes to raise healthcare costs on Michiganders. Today, in the race for Michigan’s 8th Congressional District, the DCCC announced a new television ad slamming Bishop’s record of taking half a million dollars from drug and insurance companies and voting their way in Congress.

The spot “ROI” asks Michiganders who’s getting more for their money? Rep. Mike Bishop’s constituents or the drug and insurance companies donating to his campaign? Based on his voting record in Washington, the answer is clear: Bishop voted for the AHCA, which would raise healthcare costs, in addition to slapping an age tax on older Americans, gutting protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and jeopardizing health insurance for 31,900 in his district.

“Michiganders are paying the price for Mike Bishop’s healthcare record in Washington while he cashes in,” said DCCC spokesperson Rachel Irwin. “Bishop has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from insurance companies while voting to raise healthcare costs for Michigan families. His votes to gut protections for those with pre-existing conditions like asthma, cancer and diabetes will be a huge liability as healthcare remains a top issue for voters this November.”

Let’s not forget Bishop’s vote for the GOP Tax Scam that prioritized tax cuts for his wealthy donors while repealing a key provision of the ACA that will force Michiganders to pay more in premiums for healthcare. Now, as healthcare premiums are expected to rise by double digits, Bishop refuses to take a stand against the current Administration’s efforts to dismantle protections for those with pre-existing conditions, like asthma, cancer and diabetes, in federal court.

Script:

He’s supposed to work for us. Congressman Mike Bishop.

We pay his salary. $174,000.

But the drug and insurance industries have given his campaign almost $500,000.

Who’s getting more for their money?

In Washington, Mike Bishop voted to allow insurance companies to charge older folks more for healthcare and gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions. That’s Mike Bishops record working for the drug and insurance industries.

Michigan should get our money back.
