WATCH: NEW DCCC NM-02 AD SLAMS HERRELL’S HISTORY OF CORRUPTION

Today, the DCCC launched its second TV ad in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District, highlighting corrupt politician Yvette Herrell’s record of betraying public trust. While serving in the State House, Herrell was caught using her elected position for her own financial gain when she pocketed a half-a-million dollars in taxpayer-funded contracts. Herrell violated ethics rules when she tried to hide these contacts from the public eye. The Albuquerque Journal editorial called her failure to disclose the income as “pretty egregious” and her denial “disingenuous at best.”

Herrell also served as chairwoman to a D.C.-based lobbying group and charged New Mexico taxpayers thousands of dollars to cover the costs of her lavish trips attending their political conferences across the country. New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez said, “I think there are some questions with reference to [Herrell’s] ability to … represent New Mexico in a fair and reasonable way” and former Alamogordo Mayor wrote, Yvette Herrell “is an insider that can’t be trusted.

“Even Republicans agree that Yvette Herrell is a corrupt politician who can’t be trusted to protect New Mexico families,” said DCCC spokesperson Rachel Irwin. “Herrell was caught red-handed using her elected position to line her own pockets and taking lavish trips on the taxpayer’s dime. Herrell is desperate to get to the D.C. swamp to continue her self-serving ways.”

Script:

The Albuquerque Journal called it egregious.

A betrayal of the public trust.

While serving in the state house, Yvette Herrell landed nearly half a million dollars in state contracts for her own company, and then failed to disclose it.

And at the same time she was a state Rep., Herrell helped lead a D.C. lobbying group, taking lavish trips and then charging taxpayers thousands to cover the costs.

No wonder Herrell’s fellow Republicans warn she can’t be trusted.
