WATCH: New DCCC TV Ad Highlights Ashley Hinson’s Betrayal of Iowans’ Trust

Today, the DCCC launched its first TV ad in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, “Betrayed Our Trust,” which highlights Ashley Hinson’s record of betraying Iowans’ trust.

In the State House, Hinson put wealthy special interests first time and again. In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, after taking political contributions from the nursing home industry, Hinson voted to give nursing home operators special legal immunity, letting them off the hook when their employees get sick after being forced to work in unsafe conditions.

Now, as a candidate for Congress, Hinson is refusing to take positions on critical issues like her party bosses’ lawsuit to do away with the entire Affordable Care Act, including its protections for hundreds of thousands of people with pre-existing conditions in Iowa’s 1st District. To make matters worse, the New York Times uncovered repeated instances of plagiarism in Hinson’s campaign materials, raising serious questions about who is really speaking for her and what she truly believes.

“Whether she’s dodging the issues, voting to protect the powerful at the expense of working people, or stealing her campaign materials, one thing is clear – Iowans just can’t trust Ashley Hinson,” said DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren.

Ad script:

NARRATOR: In tough times, we need leaders we can trust.

But Ashley Hinson was caught plagiarizing — word for word — from the Des Moines Register, the New York Times, even her opponent’s own policy positions.

And Hinson took thousands from the nursing home industry.

When the Coronavirus struck — Hinson voted to protect them with special legal immunity. Instead of protecting seniors and workers.

We just can’t trust Ashley Hinson.
