Today, the DCCC launched its first TV ad in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District, “Egregious,” which highlights Yvette Herrell’s record of corruption and self-dealing as a member of the New Mexico State House. The ad will air on broadcast and cable in the El Paso and Albuquerque media markets.
As a state legislator, Herrell got caught violating state ethics rules and using her position to enrich herself, collecting nearly $500,000 in taxpayer-funded state contracts that she failed to disclose. The Albuquerque Journal editorial board called Herrell’s betrayal of taxpayers “egregious” and her denial “disingenuous at best.”
Herrell even used her office to funnel more than half a million tax dollars to an organization run by her mother, earning her blistering criticism from the former Republican mayor of Herrell’s own home town.
“Yvette Herrell’s record of blatant self-enrichment speaks for itself. The moment she came into power in Santa Fe, Herrell betrayed New Mexico taxpayers’ trust and started using her position to enrich herself and her own family members. That’s a textbook case of corruption, and it’s why voters in southern New Mexico will reject Herrell for a second time in November,” said DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren.
