WATCH ON KTTC: Brad Finstad Ghosts Minnesotans as Minnesota Farmers, Families See Skyrocketing Costs Ahead of Planting Season

Where in the world is Brad Finstad?

Refusing to answer Minnesotans’ concerns about higher costs ahead of planting season for Southern Minnesota’s farmers.

KTTC reports that despite offering Finstad the opportunity to talk directly to voters about costs, “that meeting did not happen.” Even given the “timely” current events unfolding thanks to Finstad’s support for war in Iran, including “economic challenges facing farmers as the spring planting season gets underway, with the ongoing war in Iran impacting the costs of doing business.”

KTTC’s Brock Bergey: “I reached out to Congressman Brad Finstad’s office to try to meet up with the first district representative during his time back in district. That meeting did not happen.”

KTTC: “KTTC saw it as a timely [invitation], given the economic challenges facing farmers as the spring planting season is getting underway, with the ongoing war in Iran top of mind.”

DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Brad Finstad won’t address Southern Minnesota farmers’ concerns about rising fertilizer prices as spring planting season gets underway because he knows his cost-raising agenda of war in Iran and reckless tariffs is to blame.”

KTTC: KTTC offers Rep. Finstad interview opportunity ahead of planting season for southern Minnesota farmers

  • Federal lawmakers are back in Washington following their two week spring recess.
  • Ahead of the pause on Capitol Hill, KTTC reached out to Congressman Brad Finstad to meet up with the First District representative during his time in southern Minnesota. That meeting did not happen.
  • KTTC viewed the invitation as a timely one given the economic challenges facing farmers as the spring planting season gets underway, with the ongoing war in Iran impacting the costs of doing business.
  • Finstad often mentions he is a fourth-generation farmer — growing crops in the New Ulm area.
  • Questions KTTC planned on asking the second-term Republican included:
    • What are you hearing from First District farmers?
    • How are you directly being impacted by current economic factors?
    • Is additional federal assistance for farmers likely?
    • Do you support President Donald Trump’s handling of Iran?
    • Are you concern about election implications in November?
  • Farmers are seeing high input costs on essentials like fuel and fertilizer due to the disruption in the global oil supply because of the Middle East conflict.
  • In an email dated March 30, Finstad’s communications director told KTTC, “I’m working to find some time to set this up in the Congressman’s schedule. I’ll circle back once I have a better idea of Rep. Finstad’s availability and which location works best.”
  • There was no additional follow-up from the communications director.
  • There were no media advisories shared with KTTC for any of Finstad’s scheduled activities in the Rochester area. Press time is common with federal lawmakers, especially in an election year.
