WATCH: Out-Of-Touch Jay Feely Falsely Claims That Tariffs Haven’t Raised Prices: “We Haven’t Seen That”

Report after report after report shows that Arizonans are paying higher prices due to tariffs

Is Jay Feely lying (again), or is he just deeply out of touch with how much more everyday Arizonans are paying for groceriesutilities, and other household essentials?

The answer is probably both.

During last week’s Republican debate, Feely doubled down on his support for cost-raising tariffs. When asked directly if tariffs are contributing to higher prices, Feely said, “Well, we haven’t seen that.” To add insult to injury, Feely concluded his latest full-throated support for tariffs by stating, “I think it’s important to have an honest conversation.”

Feely’s primary opponent, meanwhile, admitted that tariffs are jacking up Arizonans’ costs and even advised Feely to be straight with voters.

DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Arizonans are smarter than MAGA Republican Jay Feely gives them credit for, and they know they’re paying more out of their pockets because of tariffs. Feely is once again making clear that he doesn’t care about what Arizonans are going through; he only cares about being a rubberstamp for an extreme, cost-hiking agenda.”

TRANSCRIPT:

PBS Arizona: Are these tariffs, though, just another name for attacks on U.S. citizens when the price goes up on these things?

Feely: Well, we haven’t seen that. It hasn’t shown that […] And the reality is that inflation has stayed around where it was when President Trump got into office. Ideally, you want above 5% GDP and you want under 3% inflation. That’s how we grow our way out of this deficit. You know, I think it’s important to have an honest conversation about everything that’s going on from tariffs to Iran to Venezuela.

[…]

Trobough: [Tariffs] absolutely cause inflation. Anything above 2%, the Fed just came out and said 50% of that is directly attributable to tariffs and it absolutely is a tax as well. So let’s not mask it from being something that it isn’t.
