A bombshell report from CNN today revealed that AZ-01 GOP candidates Eli Crane and Walt Blackman are two of at least twelve “prized recruits” from the NRCC that have embraced Trump’s “big lie” and “sought to undermine the legitimacy of the past elections.”
According to CNN, “Crane, a former Navy SEAL, has called on the state legislature to ‘decertify’ the 2020 election, and for the state attorney general to ‘launch a criminal investigation to hold all involved accountable.’ His GOP opponent, state Rep. Walt Blackman, has said that Trump won and the election was ‘stolen’ by Democrats.”
Watkins and Crane have also refused to condemn their fellow GOP candidate Ron Watkins, a QAnon leader whose website was used by rioters to plan and execute the deadly January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
While this might set off alarm bells for some, it apparently doesn’t bother the NRCC who included Crane and Blackman in their “Young Guns” recruit program for candidates that “embody the principles of the House Republican Conference and show promise of running a successful campaign.”
DCCC Spokesperson Johanna Warshaw:
“Simply put: extremist candidates like Eli Crane and Walt Blackman who embrace Trump’s big lie that fueled a deadly attack on our nation’s Capitol have no business serving in the halls of Congress. While the NRCC might prop up insurrectionists and election conspiracy theorists, voters in AZ-01 will see right through their dangerous lies.”
