WATCH: IN TWO NEW CA-39 ADS, DCCC HIGHLIGHTS HUFF & NELSON’S BROKEN PROMISES TO ORANGE COUNTY TAXPAYERS

First Set of TV & Radio Ads Highlight Bob Huff’s Support for Tax Increases on CA Families, After Promising to Lower Them

Second Set of Ads Highlight Shawn Nelson’s Big-Spending Ways That Run Contrary to Campaign Promises

Today, in California’s 39th Congressional District, the DCCC announced two new sets of television and radio ads targeting Bob Huff and Shawn Nelson for breaking promises to Orange County taxpayers. Both radio and television ads are set to air on May 8th. These are the DCCC’s first television ads to run in the House battlefield, excluding special elections.

The first set of ads take Sacramento politician Bob Huff to task for repeatedly taxing Orange County voters, despite his commitment to the contrary. Specifically, the DCCC highlights that despite Huff’s claim that he would lower taxes on Orange County families, he supported billions in higher sales, income, and vehicle taxes, and even a tax on shipping containers that pass through Southern California’s ports. In the second set of ads, the DCCC goes after Supervisor Shawn Nelson for being a big-spending politician that taxpayers can’t trust or afford. The ads highlight that Nelson signed up for “the most lucrative pension available”, according to the OC Register, that ultimately cost taxpayers a quarter-million dollars, despite promising taxpayers he would cut pensions on the campaign trail. In addition, the DCCC targets Nelson for driving a taxpayer-funded car, while also receiving a $9,000 per year car allowance.  Orange County taxpayers can’t afford a representative in Congress who says one thing and does another. Bob Huff and Shawn Nelson have used their elected positions to raise taxes and spend taxpayer money for their own benefit, despite promising Orange County voters that they would put their bottom line first, and the DCCC’s ads highlight that serious betrayal,” said Drew Godinich, DCCC spokesperson.

Scripts:

Huff – “Huffs and Puffs”

Sacramento politician Bob Huff huffs and puffs about lower taxes. But did you know Huff supported billions in higher sales taxes? Higher income taxes? And higher vehicle license fees? Bob Huff even voted to tax every container shipped through major Southern California’s ports. The Chamber of Commerce called it a “job killer” that would hurt our local economy. Bob Huff. He huffs and he puffs but would make your taxes go UP.

Nelson – “We Can’t Afford It”

“Doublespeak.” “Disturbing.” “Shocking.” That’s what Supervisor Shawn Nelson’s Republican colleague said about his pension hypocrisy. Nelson promised to cut pensions, then signed-up for “the most lucrative pension available.” …That ultimately cost taxpayers a quarter-million-dollars. And Shawn Nelson drove a taxpayer-funded 44 thousand dollar plug-in Prius… on top of a 9 thousand dollar a year car allowance. The OC Register said that Nelson disappoints on pensions. Shawn Nelson for Congress? We can’t afford it.
