WEBBER MUST BREAK SILENCE ON GROSSMAN’S HATEFUL COMMENTS

Seth Grossman, the Republican candidate in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District, has spent the past two weeks making local and national headlines for his racist, homophobic, and xenophobic comments.

It’s a tough task to read all of Grossman’s known offensive comments, but a sampling reveals Grossman has called diversity “a bunch of crap and un-American,” accused Barack Obama of promoting terrorism, said that Kwanzaa was “a phony holiday invented in 1960’s by black racists to weaken and divide Americans,” and wrote that HIV-positive gay men should have been quarantined.

Some Republicans have spoken out. But not Assemblyman Jay Webber, who once proposed a constitutional amendment to ban marriage equality, and hosted a “National Coming Out of Homosexuality Day.”

“Assemblyman Jay Webber has a long history of anti-gay bigotry, but that does not excuse his silence on Seth Grossman’s hateful comments,” said DCCC Spokesman Evan Lukaske. “Webber needs to speak out against these racist comments. Voters are sick and tired of spineless politicians, but that is exactly what Webber is proving to be.”
